Construction Estimator Program
This three part series introduces the student to the role and responsibilities of a Construction Estimator by covering the necessary company practices and critical functions required to effectively serve on a construction team.  The major objective of this program is for the student to review drawings and specifications, and to provide a quantity takeoff and unit price as well as prepare a bid form package for large commercial construction projects.  The preparation and procedure for setting up a tender document for a construction project is fully covered in this program as is the following:

 

EST-C1 Construction Estimating Level One - Purchase Correspondence Course

This course introduces the student to the role and responsibilities of the Construction Estimator. The course also covers the necessary company practices and the critical function of the construction estimator on a construction team.  A comprehensive look at the construction industry and the organization of Construction Company is thoroughly covered in this course.

 

Successful completion of construction estimator three will enable the student to: 

  1. Explain what it means to be a construction estimator

  2. Discuss the qualifications required to be a good construction estimator, including company office practices and procedures for putting a tender sheet together

  3. Review plans and specifications and submit a thorough quantity takeoff

  4. Serve effectively on the team as a construction estimator with emphasis on priorities, projects and decisions

  5. Perform the essential tasks of a construction estimator

EST-C2 Construction Estimating Level Two - Purchase Correspondence Course

Estimator two is designed to guide the student through a proven method of quantity surveying and estimating.  This will aid the student in determining material quantities and unit cost for a complete project.  The students are grouped together in teams and deliver a complete and comprehensive cost of construction for a given set of plans and exercises.

 

Successful completion of construction estimator two will enable the student to:

  1. Determine material quantities and unit costs

  2. Read plans and locate sections

  3. Estimate quantities and cost of concrete, formwork, steel, site work carpentry, etc.

  4. Develop a total cost of a structure

  5. Demonstrate effective comprehension of Master Format Construction Specifications Canada

EST-C3 Construction Estimating Level Three - Purchase Correspondence Course

Estimator three’s intention is for the student to utilize all of the basic and fundamental information gained in the two previous estimator courses to deliver a final cost analysis and tender package by the program end.  Students are again teamed up to review a set of plans and specification/direction documents.  The objective, to submit a complete tender illustrating contract type, bid bonds, insurances, quantity surveying and a comprehensive cost for construction submitted with accurately prepared bid forms for a large commercial construction project.  
 

Successful completion of construction estimator three will enable the student to: 

  1. Work with a team of experience estimators without confusion and lost time

  2. Determine the cost of labor and material units for a large project

  3. Develop a total cost with your estimating team in preparing a bid

  4. Understand quantity surveying

  5. Know how to read working drawings, abbreviations and symbols

  6. Understand structures, productivity & basic estimating from the perspective of a general contractor

  7. Set up and cost out a summary sheet

SUP-C1  Construction Site Superintendent The Role and Responsibility - Purchase Correspondence Course

Generally the Construction Site Superintendent is considered to be the most knowledgeable and experienced person in charge of daily activities on the construction project site.  This program covers the many active duties and critical procedures of today's Construction Site Superintendent who is faced with an uphill challenge of dealing with an inadequately trained workforce as well as unprecedented safety and liability legislation as well as gaining a fundamental knowledge in the following

PM-C1 Construction Project Manager Part One Role and Responsibilities - Purchase Correspondence Course

Who understands the project better?  Well if it were the perfect world it would be the Construction Project Manager.  Unfortunately many of today's General Contractors or persons in charge of overseeing the developer’s investment are perceptually challenged when it comes to maintaining a construction projects budget let alone having to deal with the many complex personalities and trades that affect the projects day-to-day progress.  The intention of this program is to bring construction project management, time, cost and budget into perspective with overall industry standards as well as gaining a fundamental knowledge in the following.
